NB.
The Island pack can be used in 1985 Woodland, 2005 and Asian Crisis. 1985 Desert and 1985 Winter have their own islands, and so are incompatable. It is recommended that you have at least a GeForce 5 series or a Radeon 9 series to play using the hi-resolution island pack. This is the same for the Sky Pack, which is copied with the main modifications - installable if you wish to do so via the modification folder.
A little background information for you to read while downloading:
When the FFUR Team began working on the modification late last year, they originally just intended to replace a few units in the game alongside the FlashFX effects, made by Nemesis. From version 1, patches were released to rewrite certain aspects of the modification, all the way up until version 3.0. Version 3.0 was made into a new full pack, because it replace so many things it wasn't plausable to make another patch. This was again patched, and another full pack was released, version 3.5. Until now, this was the last full pack released, but was patched up to version 4.5.
After 4.5 was made, work began on the 5.0 version. There were always things to improve, be it new/better units to replace the standard Bohemia Interactive models, bug-squashing and/or general changes to the GUI. Hence, 5.0 was made. There have been two public beta version of 5.0, but after the last beta version the modification was rewritten. The packs which have now been released were only tested privately, but being as the last few packs had bugs appear in them after extensive public testing, more emphasis has been placed upon this role this time round. The team really are confident that this version is basically bug-free. As Thunderbird84 said himself, "there isn't really anything that can go wrong - the only things that could possibly form bugs are minor, and hardly noticable". Dispite this, the team will continue to strive to patch all known bugs after release as usual, amd as tradition dictates - FFUR must have the most patches of any modification, and the least bugs because of this.
Mid-way through the creation of the version 5.0 of FFUR, the team contemplated the thought of making not just a woodland conversion, but a winter and desert conversion too. Thus was born FFUR 1985 Woodland, FFUR 1985 Winter and FFUR 1985 Desert. The latter two packs have never been seen in the public domain except in screenshots and movies. With this new turn of events, the FFUR modification was expected to peak at over 1.2GB of downloadable installers, and 2GB of uncompressed files. However, this was not enough. The FFUR Team wanted to give users the best possible experience, stretching Operation Flashpoint's engine capabilities to the limit in all fields of play. FFUR was traditionally built around units from in and around 1985 - to preserve the original Operation Flashpoint genre and update it to compete with modern games. However, there had been many calls for FFUR to compete with Y2K3, which specialised in units from in and around 2003. And so FFUR 2005 was born. FFUR 2005 strived to bring a new modernism feel to the game, in replacing the standard Bohemia Interactive Studios models with their 2005-community-made-equivelants. This brought the modification-tally up to four, and the size tally up to 1.6GB compressed/2.7GB uncompressed.
But still the FFUR Team weren't happy. With all the beta testing going on, Thunderbird84 had nothing to do but play with his own creation - understandably something probably quite boring for one who has launched the modification at least a few thousand times a day. The team wanted something original - something never done in Operation Flashpoint before. Eventually they made an announcement, stating that a further pack would be released along with Woodland, Winter, Desert and 2005, but this would remain a secret for a while - thunderbird84 wanted to surprise people, as is his way, so the pack was kept under wraps. The only people that knew the identity was the team itself, the beta testers and a few network officials. Eventually, after many verbal death threats (just kidding...) the FFUR Team gave into public pressure and announced that the surprise pack was going to be called 'Asian Crisis,' and that it would be set in a fictional conflict between China and Japan. This indeed was pretty original. The Battle Over Hokkaido modification had been ever-silently making extremely high-quality units and effects for their own modificaition, the BOH Mod, and so the FFUR Team had a source of class work. For China, they had the VME PLA modification and their high-class units. Naturally something had to be done to combine these two great mods, and so FFUR Asian Crisis was contemplated (many still call it 'Japan vs China,' as that name was given to the modification before the current).
Over the past few weeks the packs have been uploading to a private FTP server. Only beta testers have had access, and a few additional file-posters from fan sites so as to add the modifications to the main filesites for release day. Now the FFUR Team presents you with five completely different modifications, each unique in its own right. A further FFUR Full Pack will be released shortly, thought to be roughly 2GB in size - an installer which will put every piece of FFUR work into Operation Flashpoint. Have fun, and we hope you enjoy it!
